Now the Job Candidate’s NID can be Verified at the District Election Office
Now the Job Candidate’s NID can be Verified at the District Election Office. In a significant move to streamline the job recruitment process, the National Identity (NID) verification of job candidates can now be efficiently handled at the District Election Office.
This new procedure is aimed at reducing delays and confusion that previously plagued the recruitment process, offering a more accessible and time-saving solution for job applicants and recruiting authorities alike.
Old Process: Time-Consuming and Confusing
Previously, the process of verifying the NID for government job candidates was cumbersome and centralized in Dhaka. Once a candidate’s information was submitted, it required approval from higher authorities before being sent to the recruiting agency.
This often led to prolonged delays, causing frustration among job seekers who were left uncertain about the status of their applications.
New Process – Localized Verification
To address these challenges, a decision has been made to allow NID verification at the District Election Office itself. Now, candidates can verify their information locally, significantly speeding up the recruitment process.
To access this service, candidates need to apply using a prescribed form and pay a nominal fee of 100 Taka. This localized approach not only reduces processing time but also eliminates the uncertainty that was previously associated with NID verification.
Implementation and Decision
This change comes after a recent meeting involving various departments and organizations. Following the meeting, NID Director General AKM Humayun Kabir issued instructions to field officials to implement this new procedure.
The directive specifies that during recruitment processes at the department, district, and upazila levels, applicants should be allowed to verify their NID at the senior district or district election office. This verification process will occur if official cooperation is sought from the relevant department or organization.
Institutional Cooperation and Revenue Generation
In addition to the localized verification process, the Election Commission (EC) is also sharing NID server information through the Porichoy Gateway. This service is currently utilized by 164 institutions, including banks and mobile operators, which are among the most frequent users.
The EC charges a fee for each NID verification, generating substantial revenue from these institutions. While government institutions pay a single fee for verification, private institutions and financial entities are charged two Taka per verification. However, there are plans to increase this fee to five Taka in the near future.
Historical Context and NID Database
The NID database has its roots in the voter list preparation conducted by the ATM Shamsul Hudar Commission before the 2008 parliamentary elections. This voter list, complete with photographs, served as the foundation for the current NID database.
Today, the database contains information on over 12 million Bangladeshi citizens, as well as data on 1.1 million Rohingya refugees. This comprehensive database allows for the instant retrieval of any citizen’s identity, significantly aiding in the verification process.
Conclusion
The decentralization of NID verification to District Election Offices marks a significant improvement in the job recruitment process. It offers a faster, more reliable means of verifying a candidate’s identity, reducing the bottlenecks that previously existed.
As the Election Commission continues to expand its cooperation with various institutions, the benefits of this streamlined process will likely extend beyond job recruitment, enhancing the overall efficiency and integrity of identity verification in Bangladesh.
